Jack Comes To Moroney's

On Tuesday 1st November Alan Malone and his team mates visited Moroney's with the Jack Daly Cup.Having beaten Lissycasey in the County Senior Football Final on the previous Sunday it was great to see the cup back in the pub.It was indeed fitting as Gerry himself won four county senior football meadles with the Faughs and captained the victorious Faughs team in the 1952 final. Also as Jack Daly himself was a regular in the pub it was like a coming home party.

Brian John filled the cup with brandy and as is traditional this was passed around the bar.It was great for the locals to get a glimps of the cup and congratulate their fellow townies. There are pictures in the picture gallery of the night Jack came home.

Many thanks to Alan and all the lads for calling,it was much appreciated by all at Moroney's.

Tribute Night To Christy Murphy and Ennis Scouts

A special tribute night to the Ennis Boy Scouts and in particular to one of its founding members the late Christy Murphy was held in Moroney's on Monday night. Two framed pictures were unveiled by Christy's youngest daughter Kaki depicting her Dad's contribution to the Scouts and that of others. The first Ennis Troop was founded in Ennis in 1932 and the Scouts has been an integral part of the town and it's youth since then.Noel Halpin could recall events and outings going back over 50 years as if they were only yesterday. The one constant in all the stories was Christy as he lived for the Scouts and brought so much joy to the towns youth.

It must be remember that Ennis in those early years during and after the war and into the 50's and 60's was a lot different to the Ennis of today.People take it for granted now that… Read more

Polo Tops and Tee Shirts Available

Following many enquiries as to where the staff got their lovely tops,Moroney's now have polo tops and tee shirts for sale. Both tops have the crest of the pub on the front while on the back of the polo shirts only in gold writing is the pub website address.
The emblem on the shirts was taken from an old message bag (see picture gallery under Bar)that was used in the grocery where tea, sugar, biscuits etc were on sale. It's existence dates back to when the grocery / pub first opened it's doors in 1840.
Photos of the polo tops can be seen in the picture gallery under the headings A Team and Bob Kearney ex Market Street now domicile in the USA since the 50's.It was his son Brian who ordered the top as a surprise for his Dad and needless to say Bob was delighted to feel so close to his home town.

Welcome Home Harry

After leaving Ennis over 25 years ago to study art and follow his dream Harry Guinane from Carmody St (lived opposite ESB) has returned to his roots. His late Dad, Sean, was a staunch and founding member of the Faughs football team and Eire Og, while also having the post of County Board Secretary.

Harry is now an accomplished artist, illustrator and designer specialising in potraits, illustrations, caricatures and company logos. With this in mind Harry was commissioned to do a potrait of Gerry Moroney, his late wife Mary and to include a greyhound in the potrait to signify their love of the long tails. The potrait can be seen in the picture gallery under the heading Harry Guinane artist supreme. Take a look and see what you think.

Heineken Cup Final

On Saturday 20th May, Munster take on Biarritz at 3pm in Cardiff in the Heineken Cup Final, and are hoping for victory after two previous final defeats. Many of our loyal locals are heading over, including Cyril Corry, Liam, Alan & John Murphy, Mike Mac, Senie Ryan, Donie Neylon, Enda Howard etc. We wish them well and hope the bring home the spoils.

Here in Moroney's, the Munster flag is flying high on the front of the pub. If you are not going to Cardiff, why not join us in shouting Declan Kidney's men on to what one hopes will be a famous win...

Ennis Leeds United Supporters Club

On Friday 5th May and Monday 8th, the Ennis Branch of the Leeds United Supporters Club gathered in Moroney's for the play-off semi-finals in the Championship vs. Preston. Although the pub caters for all sports from soccer, rugby, GAA etc., it was a Leeds pub on these two nights. Over 60 fans met to shout on the Whites, and after a 1-1 draw on Friday night, the action switched to Monday night where tension was at a high until Leeds scored in the 56th minute. They added a second five minutes later and held out for a famous victory despite having two men sent off.

The boss Brian John McCarthy, himself a self-confessed Spurs, fanatic played "Marching on Together" for the fans before, during, and after the game. The supporters were also fed at half-time. As the one and only Mike Mac commented "We've the best pub, best grub, best craic,… Read more

Waterboys in Moroney's!

On Wednesday 1st March Mike Scott & The Waterboys played the first of their two sell-out concerts in Glor and afterwards adjourned to Moroneys to listen to the weekly Wednesday night trad session. There were not to be disappointed as Marcus Moloney, Martin Dermody, Alan Kelly & Mossie Griffin had them stamping their feet and clapping their hands to the music. It did not take much persuasion from Mike and the lads to join in and what a session it turned out to be for those lucky enough to be present.

Along with Mike there was Steve Wickham (Fiddler extraordinaire), Carlos Hercules, Steve Walters & Richard Naiff (Keyboard dynamo) of The Waterboys and crewmembers Steve and Bomber. Also there were members of their support band on the night Guggenheim Grotto and John Butler who couldn't resist the call from his good friend Colm McNevin when he heard the session was on.

Award for Moroney's

In the annual Ennis Tidy Towns Awards ceremony held in the County Library on Friday evening 11th November, Moroney's Bar were successful in gaining an award for the shop front and their floral display. This was a tribute to all those who helped restore Moroney's to its former glory from Gerry Dunne (Engineer), Pat McComiskey (Builder), John Brassil & Tony Roche (Painters) and all those other great workmen too numerous to mention. Míle Buíochas.

Obviously the project would have failed without the contribution of Brian John, Tracy and staff who run the bar to the highest of standards and hopefully will continue the great tradition associated with the pub. The award was presented by Dermot Whelan (Sponsor) along with Bishop Willie Walsh.

This is a great honour for the pub and hopefully will give all the encouragement to keep up the highest standards that befits our great town.

Ennis Trad Festival 10th - 14th November 2005

This event which is now in its 12th year, attracting thousands to Ennis from far and wide who come to enjoy the music, craic and drink is on to another winner this weekend. Traditional music is growing in popularity with each passing year and for the first time since its inception Moroney's is delighted to be associated with the festival. Since Moroney's reopened (after extensive renovations) last June, Wednesday & Thursday nights are dedicated as trad nights and theses have proved very popular with the local public. Brian John has used all his connections in the music business and assembles some great local artists for these nights.

On the regular Thursday night gig for the opening of the festival Martin Breen and friends played and had the crowd baying for more. Martin is from Summerhill so is as local as they come. The set for Friday night had some great performers… Read more
